Poached pears in wine, oh so yummy!!!
The Holidays are upon us and with that are family and friends gatherings. Such a magical time of the year. All decoration are up and the festive air surround us.
This time of year is our favorite. The whole house is fully decorated, we enjoy spending special time with our friends, and cooking and baking up a storm.
As we sit down for breakfast every morning, a sacred ritual in our home, I was asking my family what I can do that is different to share our recipes with all of you. I wanted something different, something fun. With that my son took over, I love to ask him for his opinion as he has a fresh outlook on things and he also has a good sense of humor. His suggestion was to do “The 12 recipes of Christmas” song with new or old recipes. Love the idea and started working on it. Here is what I came up and I hope you will enjoy my rendition.

On the fist day of Christmas

A poached pear in wine
POACHED PEARS IN WINE
4 large pears all the same size , I used Bartlett
1/2 bottle of good red wine, I used Pinot Noir
1 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons vanilla sugar or 1 bean of vanilla
Peel the pears leaving the stem and cutting off the base so they will stand up.
In a non-reactive pan bring the wine, sugar and vanilla to a boil.
Immerse the pears into the wine and bring to a small boil, cover and continue cooking for 35 to 40 minutes or until the pears look translucent. The pears have to be tender when poked with a toothpick.
Remove from the heat and let I cool off in the syrup.
Once you are able to handle, delicately remove the pears and reduce the wine to a thicker syrup if need be by bringing it to a boil for a couple of minutes.
Place the pears in a dish or bowl and spoon the wine syrup over it.
