There is something magical about bananas: sweet, tender, and rich in flavor. But, when you combine them with cake, the explosion of flavor will make you come back for a second slice.
As you know, I have a tendency never to skip a dessert, I have a sweet tooth that is out of this world, but after all, who can say no to dessert? If it was up to me, I would start dinner with dessert and work backward.

Truth be told, my dad loved bananas, and when we were little, he used to make us bananas with lots of butter and sugar. Place that over ice cream and you have heaven.

This upside-down banana cake is made with a few key ingredients, which we all have as a staple in our kitchen and with, of course, bananas.
Ingredients you will need to make this Banana Upside Down Cake
Unsalted butter – I always use unsalted butter in my cooking or baking to control the amount of sodium. Salted butter not only adds too much salt to your dish, but it changes the flavor.
Brown sugar – gives a great sweet caramelization
Bananas – large bananas and not too ripe.
All-purpose flour – needed for your cake batter.
Baking powder – helps your cake to rise.
Salt – alwasy add some salt to your batters
Granulated sugar – your cake needs a touch of sweetness.
Large eggs – make sure they are at room temperature
Vanilla extract – gives that great flavor to your cake.
Whole milk – created the cream batter for your cake. Do not substiture as the result will not be the same.

How to make Banana Upside Down Cake, step by step instructions.
As with all my recipes, pleasse gather all the ingredients prior to start baking.
- Start by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.
- Butter your round cake pan, generously and set aside.
Your next step will be to prepare the pan with:
- In a small saucepan melt the butter and set aside until ready to use it.
- In a small bowl mix together the melted butter and brown sugar. This should create a great spreadable mixture. Place it on the bottom of the prepared pan.
- Slice the bananas and place them all over the brown sugar mixture.
Prepare your cake batter by:
- Work all the dry ingredients: Swift the flour, baking powder and salt in one small bowl. In a medium bowl with your electric mixer soften the remaining butter with the sugar. You should have a light and flyffy mixture,
- Add one egg at the time and beat well after each egg.
- Add the vanilla to the batter and once all mixed with the help of a sooper add the flour to the mixture and alternate with the milk.
Your batter is done and now move forward to baking:
- By pouring the batter in the prepared pan over the bananas. Spread evenly and bake in the middle of the oven.

- Let the cake cool on a cooling rack for 15 minutes and then invert the cake into a plate or serving platter.

Pro Tip
