Buffalo mozzarella marinated with tomato and arugula. I am very grateful that my herbs garden is still giving me fresh oregano and basil. I love to use fresh herbs with my dishes.  The flavor is more intensified. Tonight’s recipe has a savory spin to our all-time favorite Caprese.

Imagine fresh oregano, basil, lime, and crushed garlic marinating over an open buffalo mozzarella. Therefore, all the natural juices infusing the mozzarella. Sweet, tangy, all intertwine and the end result is this fantastic mozzarella full of flavor.

How to serve it.

Served as an appetizer. Simply marinate the mozzarella and when ready to serve add the sliced or quartered tomatoes Drizzle some of the remaining marinades over the tomatoes to bring in all the flavors.

Or as a light dinner by adding a bed of arugula. I have a special love for arugula, but you can use radicchio, cresson, or butter lettuce. However, let marinate the buffalo mozzarella alone and at the time of dinner transfer it over the salad bed. The acidity of the lemon will wilt the salad if the two are prepared at the same time. And the marinade is what gives this dish such a fantastic flavor.

Stores well

Yes, it does. Only the mozzarella part of course. Store it in a sealed container. If you decide to have it for lunch, keep the salad of your choice in a separate container and add everything together at the last minute.

What is buffalo mozzarella?

Buffalo mozzarella is a mozzarella made from milk of water buffalo. Traditionally manufactured in the southern part of Italy, Campania.  Creamier and softer than cow-milk.

Buffalo mozzarella is originating from the Campania region of Italy, south of Naples. Softer inside and hard outer shell. Quite savory and easy to work with.

This looks so delicious! Where can I buy buffalo mozzarella?

    1. Giangi Townsend says:

      Hi Colette!
Most grocery stores and gourmet specialty stores will carry. Whole Foods, Trader’s Joe may too. Murray’s is a great company that is everywhere in the US. Galbani is my most favorite brand.
I am sure any of your area stores will order it for you.
      Enjoy!
