It is fresh, fun, and topped with a prawn like the cherry on a savory sundae. As soon as I took the first bite of this excellent appetizer on my latest trip to Paris, France, I knew I had to recreate it for my family and all of you.
The chef helped me a little with the ingredients, as you know, chefs never give out all their secrets, and as soon as I got back, I had to make it. After a few tries, to the pleasure of my family, I could recreate it in my kitchen.
It is delicious as a light dinner, my favorite part, or an appetizer. Either way, we love the sweetness of the peaches, uplifted by the sourness of the lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce.
Served in a small glass brings out all the color combinations and a pretty presentation.
I call it dinner on a glass 🙂

Why you will love this recipe
Ready in 15 minutes – making it perfect for the last-minute gathering.
Fresh ingredients and seasonal – when the peaches are at their prime, you will not stop eating this appetizer. The flavor is just out of this world.
With six ingredients – you have a fantastic recipe everyone enjoys, even the little ones.
Ingredients needed to make this recipe
This is a short introduction. The ingredient list is also brief. It includes essential items that you may already have in your pantry. Please read the recipe for complete instructions.
Large cooked prawns – rich in flavor and texture, they are our favorites. Remove the outer shell and leave the tail on.
Yellow peaches – Rich in flavor and soft when you bite into them. Ensure they are mature but not so much that they fall apart when cut into small bite-sized pieces.
Avocados – should be soft to the touch but not mushy. Mix them immediately with the lemon juice to prevent them from turning dark brown. This will keep their bright green shade.
Lemon – plays two important roles. The first one keeps the peaches and avocado from turning dark and unpleasant to look at (we do eat with our eyes, too). Secondly, it adds the sour component this recipe needs. Half squeezed and the other half thinly sliced to be placed with your prawns as decoration.
Worcestershire sauce – add the acidity that it needs to make it sour. Do not skip this key ingredient.
Fresh dill – the best companion to all your fish recipes.
Salt and black ground pepper – are the seasonings you will need.

Step by step on how to make these delicious sweet and sour prawns
With all my recipes, please assemble all the ingredients before cooking and baking.
- Sheel your prawns by keeping the tails intact and set aside.
- Peel, remove the pits, and slice the peaches and avocado into small cubes. Place in a small bowl.

- Cut the lemon in half. Squeeze one half over the peach and avocado mixture, and slice the other lemon half into thin slices.
- Add the Worcestershire sauce to the peaches and gently mix well. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

- Divide the avocado-peach mixture into four small glass containers. Sprinkle some dill over it, place one prawn in each glass, and garnish with the lemon wedge.
- Serve chilled.

Pro Tips
- You can chill the peaches and avocado cubes with lemon in the refrigerator for a few hours before assembling them with the remaining ingredients.
- Use large shrimps instead of prawns if you wish.
- Add some cut-up prawns to the peach avocado mixture to make it richer.
- Once you add the Worcestershire sauce, the consistency will change slightly in color. That is normal.
What dishes can you enjoy with these sweet and sour prawns?
This can be the opening to any meals you choose to. From any rice dish and seafood to a simple dessert such as strawberries and wine, no cooking is required, if you are like me, who has to have it for dinner.
Variations and Substitutions
This is such an easy recipe that there is little room for variation. However, below are some variations that we played with and enjoyed.
Cut a couple of extra prawns and combine them with the peach avocado mixture. This gives the dish a rich texture, making it more of a meal than an appetizer.
The prawns can be substituted with large shrimp.
If no Worcestershire is on hand, use one tablespoon soy sauce. It’s not the same flavor, but it adds sourness to it.
White vinegar can be used instead of the lemon if none are on hand. However, you must serve your prawn cocktail recipe immediately, as the vinegar will not prevent the avocado from turning. Use as little as possible to start with and taste as you go along. You do not want it to sour.
Storing
This sweet and sour prawn recipe keeps well in the refrigerator in an airtight container for a couple of days.
It is not recommended to freeze it as the avocado will not freeze well, and you will have mush once defrosted.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are prawns sweeter than shrimp?
There is a very subtle taste difference between the two, however, prawns are generally considered slightly sweeter than shrimps.
Which one is tastier, shrimp or prawns?
The difference in taste between the two is subtle and at times indistinguishable. Both are super delicious and can be used interchangeably in recipes.
Are prawns just big shrimp?
Although closely related, prawns are not large shrimp. They have longer bodies and legs, while shrimp have a more curved shape.
